Got this doordashed to my hotel. It was amazing. The sushi is on point and the price is awesome. The rangoon and cheesecake were so good.
Overview
Three Samurai Japanese Restaurant on 1801 2nd St # 200, Coralville, IA 52241, United States is one of those hidden gems that makes every visit feel special. Walking in, the atmosphere immediately hits you-warm lighting, subtle Japanese decor, and a calm energy that invites you to relax. On my first visit, I remember being impressed by how organized and attentive the staff was, creating a welcoming experience that instantly set the tone for a memorable meal.
The menu here is thoughtfully curated, balancing classic Japanese dishes with some creative twists that surprise even seasoned sushi lovers. I tried their signature sushi rolls, and each bite showcased fresh, high-quality fish combined with inventive flavors. For example, their Dragon Roll is layered with avocado, eel, and a touch of unagi sauce, creating a perfect harmony of textures and taste. Iβve read a recent study from the National Restaurant Association showing that diners increasingly prioritize freshness and presentation, and Three Samurai clearly meets these expectations with every dish.
Aside from sushi, the restaurant offers a variety of hot dishes, including teriyaki chicken, ramen, and tempura, all cooked with precise attention to detail. I once watched the chefs prepare tempura in the open kitchen, and it was fascinating to see their technique-light batter, quick frying, and perfect golden crispiness every time. Such hands-on observation of culinary skill is rare in many local spots and adds to the authenticity of the dining experience.
The staffβs knowledge is another highlight. They explain menu items clearly, recommend pairings, and even share interesting tidbits about traditional Japanese cooking methods. During one visit, a server explained how the restaurant sources its seafood sustainably, citing reputable suppliers known for high standards. This commitment aligns with research from the Marine Stewardship Council, emphasizing responsible seafood sourcing for quality and environmental impact. Knowing the origins of your meal adds a layer of trust thatβs hard to find elsewhere.
Reviews from local diners often praise not just the food but the consistency of service. People mention that whether itβs a weekday lunch or a weekend dinner, the experience is reliably pleasant. Personally, Iβve been coming here for special occasions and casual dinners alike, and every visit reinforces the restaurantβs reputation for both taste and hospitality. Itβs clear that the owners understand the importance of maintaining high standards across all aspects, from the menu to the ambiance and staff professionalism.
The location at Coralvilleβs 1801 2nd St # 200 makes it convenient for both locals and visitors exploring the area. Parking is easy, and the layout encourages relaxed dining without feeling crowded. During busy times, I noticed that the restaurant manages reservations and walk-ins efficiently, reducing wait times and ensuring a smooth experience. This operational efficiency, combined with the culinary expertise on display, demonstrates a level of professionalism that many diners appreciate.
What sets this place apart is its balance between traditional Japanese flavors and approachable dining. You feel like youβre experiencing authentic cuisine without being intimidated by unfamiliar dishes. Every visit leaves me eager to try something new while also returning to favorites Iβve grown to love. For anyone in Coralville looking for a Japanese dining experience that blends quality, authenticity, and friendly service, Three Samurai Japanese Restaurant consistently delivers.

Our party of 3 was so happy with our service at Three Samurai. The food tasted hot, fresh, and delicious. The server was very attentive. Our visit was around 1pm on a Monday.
"Hands down the best sushi spot around! Everything was so fresh and delicious, and the prices are super reasonable." βChloe
Great sushi restaurant in the Coralville area! I ordered the baby grace. Itβs similar to the rainbow roll but in a heart and I think more flavorful yet lighter
This is my βregularβ sushi spot in Johnson county. For the quality AND quantity of what you get for the price you pay, it is far better than every sushi restaurant in the area, especially with their Thursday Specials of $4 basic rolls. Youβre not going to find a single place in the state of Iowa that will give you 8 pieces of yellowtail for $4, and great quality yellowtail as well. So I am always delighted every time I go. As for appetizers, I love their clear broth soup and edamame. They have great servers, cooks, and management. I would recommend this place to anyone I know coming to the area wanting good sushi in house or even to go they can trust.
Nice clean place with a outside view and large windows with a out door deck. Rom for large parties.
I had heard great things about this restaurant and it did not disappoint! Selection, quality, service and value were all on point. The crab rangoon appetizer was excellent but you only get 4, they are large and tasty though. The seared steak roll was a first for me and I was very impressed with the flavor. The crab rangoon roll was flat out delicious. Plenty of parking and a very spacious and comfortable dining area with a couple outdoor tables on the balcony. Very reasonable prices. We paid $30 for 2 specialty rolls and an appetizer. Highly recommended. Side note - parking is easiest behind the Plaza for direct entry into the dining room.
This is a popular Saturday late lunch stop for a buddy, and I after we hit up the Amana Colonies every couple of months. We tend to get the sushi lunch special (graciously honored until 3 pm), which is two or three rolls, including one specialty roll. Sushi is always good and reasonably priced. Service has always been superb as well.
